This North Staffordshire potter, possibly of Scandinavian origin, used traditional pottery techniques but more ambitiously than any potter up to that time. WebOf necessity, the huge 'display' chargers made for local market by Staffordshire potters in the late 17th century were fired upright in the kiln, with the risk of partial collapse (as is this case).
