WebAug 23, 2024 · These axles do interchange. The '98 and earlier 8.5 uses exactly the same differential bearings as the 8.2. The inner diameter of the 8.5 and 8.2 ring gear is exactly the same size. The big difference is going to be the size of the holes for the ring gear bolts. The 8.2 uses 3/8 bolts and the 8.5 uses 7/16 bolts.
